4 Fresh Ideas for Putting Up Your Hair This Season

The heat of summer is finally within striking distance—inducing visions of long, rosé-tinted weekends and sweaty city afternoons. And while a neck-exposing blunt crop is the ultimate cool girl’s answer to a scorching July day, some of us won’t be reaching for the shears just yet. What, then, is a long-hair devotee to do? The solution: Make a neat bundle of what can otherwise quickly become a hot mess.

Luckily, celebrities offer a wealth of hot-weather hairspiration:

Check out anything-but-basic ways to wear your hair up this summer.

The Plush Ponytail

Ponytails aren’t just for bad hair days. I love creating amped up ponies whenever I want to show off a fresh eyebrow wax or if I want to do a really fierce cat eye. To get a voluminous messy ponytail, start by adding Sky Hi Volume Mousse to damp hair and Root Amp Root Lifting Spray Mousse on your roots. Blow dry with a round brush and large rollers then tease your roots once your hair is dry. Make a loose ponytail leaving out your front layers. Twist your leave-out, then wrap the hair around your hair tie. Finish off with a little Full Control Hairspray to keep everything in place and you’re all done.

The Messy Topknot

The easiest way to make a casual outfit look dressier is to go for an updo. Start by spraying clean hair with Texture Tease spray then pull your hair up into a loose ponytail. Twist your hair into a loose bun, the looser the better. Secure it with a few pins then carefully fluff it out to keep it looking effortless. Finish the look by lightly spraying a little Full Control Hairspray to keep every strand in place.

The Banded Bardot

Follow these quick steps to achieve the look:

Separate the hair on the crown of the head and gently back comb to create some volume. From the tops of the ears, gently pull the hair to the center of the head. Tie off the hair with a clear elastic band.  *Tip: gently loosen the top pieces by pulling them up from the elastic to create a softer effect. Grab a 1″ curling iron and curl your strands away from the face. Using your favorite ribbon, tie a little bow around the clear elastic band. Finish with hairspray, smoothing down any flyaways; voila!

The Sleek Braid

Many fashion fanatics in Paris have already started to wear the braids. The best thing about the single plait is that it is easy to achieve, especially for the busy woman. Check out how you can recreate the sleek look for this upcoming winter season.

How to Achieve

The key to achieving the perfect braid is to use sculpting cream by running the cream through the top of the head for lift and support.

You then pull your hair into a ponytail braid it tightly to the ends.

The bold, polished plait is en vogue so make sure that it is not bouncy and there are no loose hairs sticking out of the braid.
