What to Wear When You Go Skiing, So You Stay Warm, Dry, and Stylish

You've booked your ski trip—a cabin, good friends, and some hot chocolate...winter bliss. Now, it's time to get down to business: what to pack. Before you hit the slopes, you'll want to suit up properly in warm and waterproof gear. Not sure where to find such things? We've got you. Here's a narrowed-down packing list that includes only the most important items, from a high-tech jacket to ultra-cozy gloves, and where to buy them. (There's even a pair of Fendi ski goggles in here, if you want to be fancy.) Once you're done shopping, reward yourself with an Après cocktail.

A Snow-Ready Jumpsuit: Perfect Moment ski jumpsuit, $750

Take the guess work out of matching a top and bottom with this Perfect Moment “Tignes” jumpsuit. It’s made of a waterproof and breathable fabric complete with four-way stretch, so you can show off those moves on the mountain with ease. The one-piece also has fleece lining for insulation and a helmet-compatible hood. Though this is a bit pricey, for aficionados with season passes, it's worth the splurge

A Helmet

Before you attempt to cliff-huck in the French Alps, strap on your helmet. There are fancy ones for over $100, but you don't have to spend a fortune for good, protective head gear. This $49 piece from Bern does the job. Bern ski helmet, $49

A Cheeky Sweater

Done skiing for the day? Slip on this sweater and sit in front of the fireplace with a hot toddy in hand. It's on-theme and can even be worn back at home with jeans and booties. I love the vintage feel and bold lettering, since it sends a clear message to everyone that you enjoy the sport (even if, let's admit, you're better at the après part). The Great Alpine Ski sweater, $295.

Leggings for Layering

Double layering your pants is a solid idea, especially if we're talking single-digit temps. This lightweight pair of tights from Mammut has anti-odor properties (important if you plan to spend the whole day outdoors) and is quick-drying, so you’re not coated in your own sweat. Perfect for wearing under a pair of waterproof ski pants or under your ski jumpsuit.Mammut go dry tights, $55

A Pair of Ski Goggles

Avid skiers will want to invest in their own gear, and one of the most important pieces are goggles. This sporty pair features wide lenses with a blue tint. The label's name is stamped on the straps, lest you forget who makes this fashionable eyewear.Fendi mirror goggles, $437

A Waterproof Jacket

If you're going to spend a few hours on the slopes, tumbling around in the snow, you need a waterproof jacket. Columbia makes this affordable one that will repel water and keep you warm, thanks to the synthetic fiber insulation. The jacket also has zippered pockets for your wallet and knitted cuff sleeves for extra comfort around the wrist.Columbia insulated jacket, $170

A Knit Hat

A good helmet will keep your head warm (and safe) while skiing. When you take a break from the run, however, stay cozy (and hide helmet hair) with a knitted beanie. This one will keep your head and ears toasty and looks ski-lodge chic. If you're not a hat person, give these furry earmuffs a try.Plush beanie, $66

A Luxe Pair of Ski Pants

Toni Sailer's ski pants blur the line between fashion and function—they looks like a regular pair of leggings but have the technology of advanced ski gear. The bottoms are designed with a water-repellent fabric to keep ice out, while a proprietary lining keeps warmth in. Thanks to the tailored fit and a stirrup style, these pants are ultra stylish (honestly, I'd wear these even if I wasn't skiing). Toni Sailer stirrup ski pants, $399

A Pair of Gloves

Gloves are necessary for ski trips, so don't forget to pack yours. This cute leather pair is not only machine washable, but also has grips on the fingers for better control. And that icy blue design has me ready for wintertime. Marmot gloves, $65

A Two-Tone Scarf

A scarf might not be the best idea when you actually ski, should it become tangled with your equipment. Instead, save it for when you hang out on the deck of your resort, sipping those après-ski drinks. This two-toned wool scarf from will keep you warm and snug and looking stylish as you take in the snow-covered scenery. & Other Stories scarf, $89
