The Spanish fashion house revealed its autumn/winter 2017 Limited Edition collection in May to audience acclaim and widespread desire.
What better place than the Palacio de Linares in Madrid, an exquisite and historic destination rich in Spanish heritage, for Massimo Dutti, a fashion company which has cemented itself as one of the country’s most prized creations, to present its autumn/winter 2017 Limited Edition collection? Inspiring, original and sophisticated, setting and style were harmoniously in sync for the May catwalk show, which gathered together the most prominent names in fashion and high society as dusk fell over the city.
The main element to note from the show? Massimo Dutti has hit its fashion stride. Contemporary cuts mingled with vintage accents; smooth expanses of butter-soft leather made for the most luxurious of outerwear; and meticulous detailing – think concertina shoulder pleats, Victoriana ruffles, origami tailoring and elegant grosgrain bows – elevated every look, taking the Massimo Dutti customer in a flawless direction.
“Fashion is a constant evolution and, as such, the Dutti woman follows change without losing her sense of style” was the message from the womenswear design team in Madrid. “The introduction of more feminine and fluid shapes, colours, contemporary looks and exclusive fabrics have been crucial this season. The reinvented Dutti icons, such as the leather pieces or the luxurious knitwear, also come in a higher quality and show remarkable workmanship.”
Remarkable is one word; irresistible is another. The sumptuous knits that came cabled and ribbed were indulgent and enveloping, styled over longer luxurious lengths of silk and architectural tailored trousers (take note: head-to-toe tonal ensembles work). Elsewhere the palette was mesmerising. Following the minimalist appeal of pale greys, winter whites and dusty pinks were maximalist magenta, chartreuse and champagne – confident and considered but also giving way to a mature merriment, thanks to the sway of silk and the bounce of hemlines as the models walked through the historic rooms.

Dramatic and impactful, this is a collection which has several hallmarks of haute couture but also the easy elegance that allows it to be worn every day – a balance which is crucial when it comes to pleasing the consumer on the European high streets, where the label’s bricks-and-mortar stores stand. “Luxury is accessible and always should be, that’s why we never forget style and quality while designing,” declare the team. “Every woman should be able to fulfill her dreams buying clothes from a runway show.” We couldn’t agree more – and dreams were certainly made of this.
